How to Turn Off “Joined the Group” Messages on Telegram

In Telegram groups, service messages like “X joined/left the group” can clutter the chat—especially in busy communities. Telegram doesn’t provide a single universal switch for every version and group type, so the most practical approach is auto-cleaning service messages. This guide shows a clean setup using Rose Bot.

Admin rights required No passwords 2–3 min setup

1) Why do “joined/left” messages appear?

Telegram displays certain events as automatic service messages: joined, left, invited, group photo changed, and so on. In large groups, these can interrupt the flow and make real messages harder to follow.

Important: “Turning off” here means preventing clutter in practice via automatic cleanup (auto-deleting service messages).

If your goal is simply not seeing “joined/left” spam, the most stable method is having a bot detect these service messages and remove them quickly.

2) Auto-clean service messages with Rose Bot

When Rose Bot has the right admin permissions, it can automatically remove specific service messages. That way, “joined the group” lines don’t stay in the chat. These 3 steps are usually enough.

1

Add Rose Bot to the group

Add the bot to your group and make sure it can send messages.

2

Promote the bot to admin + allow “Delete messages”

To remove service messages, Rose needs the Delete Messages permission. (Some Telegram UIs label it as “Manage messages” or similar.)

3

Enable service-message cleanup

Command labels can differ by Rose version. Try these commands in order: enable, disable, then help to confirm.

Enable Turn on service-message cleanup
/cleanservice on
/cleanservice yes
Disable Turn cleanup off (if needed)
/cleanservice off
/cleanservice no
Check If commands differ, open help
/help cleanservice
/help
Tip: If a command doesn’t work, it’s usually one of these: the bot isn’t admin, it lacks Delete messages, or Telegram/Rose has a temporary limitation. Open /help to confirm the exact command for your version and try again.
Want more Rose commands? This page only covers service-message cleanup. For full Rose settings (moderation, filters, anti-spam, welcome messages, etc.), go here: Rose Bot settings & commands

3) Common issues + quick fixes

Quick test: After enabling cleanup, add a test user (or join with a second account). If the “joined” line disappears shortly after, it’s working.
